Subtitles

Are there new engineers on the YouTube team? It seems they've been launching plenty of new features lately. I'm loving video annotations, which I've added to some videos. And while I was away on vacation (yey, first one in 8 years) adding subtitles was enabled.
Annotations are surely useful here and there, but what about subtitles? Is it worth the effort? Would others be willing to translate? I'd be able to do English and German if there's interest, but that's about it. Of course, it'd mean more work for poor Sara.

For a short preview on what subtitles would look like, check out the first part of Doc's Kaleidoscopic Twister. Push on the up-arrow in the bottom right corner of the video display and activate CC. There's English and German added right now, select by clicking the left arrow next to the CC. Although I've already typed all the text down for that part, I only added the timing information up until 2:37. I might add more later. But for a first impression a good two and a half minutes should do in any case.

Curious to hear your thoughts on this...

Subtitles for GOOGLE

There is a rumour going round that in 2009 Google are going to give more weight to sites with video and that subtitles can be more easily understood by them than the visual aspect.
I don't know how much truth there is to it but it could be one of the reasons why you tube are doing this.

I am sure the move to add

I am sure the move to add subtitles is to help them build better search engines for videos. At this point the searches are limited to the tags the person who uploaded the video gave it.

Origami is more about

Origami is more about watching I guess, so just seeing will work most of the time. Although english subtitles would be cool. Thanks for all the origami videos

I admire your work. I learned a lot from you, monitoring your videos. Today already do more advanced work in origami. And I am very grateful to you, that took the care to put his teachings available on the site. I invite you to visit my blog: lucasorigami.blogspot.com But I have a dream to make the phoenix to Satoshi Kamiya. I wonder if you could send me the diagram of the Phoenix. My email is: nataliaesmatra@gmail.com Big kiss, Lucas Gabriel.

this site will help you translate (if help is needed)

I know, you can't really trust that the words are 100% acurate, but hey, if they want it perfect and can't do it themselves, then why should they complain?

Most of the work

Most of the work is actually typing the words down that I say, and especially adding the timing when I say the words, actually. As to automatic translation - I won't do that.
There's origami-related vocabulary involved, and I think the quality of those translations is potentially very bad. But I have had someone volunteering for Spanish. So that's a start. :)

I speak portuguese, spanish,

I speak portuguese, spanish, english, and french, thus I can be of some help with the "origami vocabulary."

Sara, have you contacted any other origami artist who have videos in multiple languages?
What about the YOUTUBE ® Feedback, Service Team?
