Model: diameter of 3.2cm, when pressed flat height of 1.2cm (expanded 9cm)

I tried your's tutorial for Whirlpool Spiral in Inkscape. I did them but my question is what does it mean this S in the name of this spiral?

Do you have to do any cutting on the parallelogram or just cut out a basic parallelogram ?
