Scaled Koi (Robert J. Lang): Front View

Designer:

In September 2007 I challenged myself to fold a scaled koi within the next year. Well, it did not happen. But this weekend I met the challenge. I started on Friday afternoon, and finished today - Sunday afternoon. Rest assured, I took many long breaks, and indeed didn't work much on the fish at all on Saturday. Here's the result.
I recorded the whole folding process, and might make a 30-second or so time lapse out of it. I'm not sure yet, it's so much material!

In any case, I'm proud I managed to complete the fish. It's not perfect, but hey - I'm not Robert Lang. :)

Review of the paper used:

Folding this model is just about the best activity for killing time on the airplane! This picture shows it with 11 stages (left) and 7 stages (right), just to show you how they compare.
Trivia: The creases are about 3mm apart in the orange, 11-stage version. In the green, 7-stage version the creases are about 5mm apart.

Paper size: 19.5cm transparent paper (approx. 7.5in)
Model size: 8.5cm x 8.5cm x 1cm (approx. 3.3in x 3.3in x 0.4in)

Apples (Shuzo Fujimoto)

At the CDO Convention 2009, I taught this apple by Shuzo Fujimoto. I'm pleased to say that it took us less time than expected (only half an hour), and everyone had a nicely folded model in the end. The bigger, orange apple is the one I folded to display which model I'd be teaching, and the smaller, red one shows the paper we used during the session.
