Yesterday I met up with Stephan Weber, who is a great advocator of expressive folding. At the end of the night we folded his bull, although I have to admit I couldn't replicate it again now. It's easy to see that Stephan has a lot of experience with folding, as he confidently and quickly makes the paper do exactly what he wants it to. With a bit of practice I hope I'll learn a bit of his shaping techniques, although I have to admit I still love having reference points. But if one could combine the exact placement of folds through references, and the combination of curved and straight folds that Stephan facilitates, I think origami works could be taken to another level.

And, as a disclaimer, of course this model isn't folded as nicely as it should be. It was a test fold, and time was limited. You can see at several points (e.g. the hooves) that with more time and practice they can be shaped quite nicely. And of course the proportions aren't quite there yet.

I've added the information now, it seems diagrams are in Tanteidan 11. It's not out of print yet, but I'm guessing that it won't be available for much longer (ie the last copies will sell sometime soon).

Sara,
I just finished folding this bull lastnight and I'm wondering........would you agree with me when I say it's not as hard as it looks at all. For the way it looks,it's detail. It's not so hard to fold.....am I right ?

Well, it's hard to say, because I didn't fold it from diagrams, but rather Stephan showed me how to fold it. I'd say it's probably an intermediate model, though.

Sara, just a question.......What kind of paper and paper size did you make your bull from? Because it looks like gift wrap but, I don't think that's what it is.

I'm not sure how large the sheets were, something around a 35cm to 50cm square. It was rather heavy paper (wet-folding), but I fear I don't know what paper it exactly was. Sorry, I should have asked back then and noted it down.

hi, just wondering, you said that its just a test fold and you want to fold it again but you folded that one in october and now its the middle of may. so have you folded it yet??

However, I ordered Tanteidan 11, which seems to have diagrams for the bull, so I might give it a go some time in the fut
