Veiltail Angelfish (Satoshi Kamiya)

Satoshi Kamiya also taught a workshop at the CDO Convention 2009 for his fish. It was somewhat - let's say unconventional: he said he'd teach "John Montroll style": he handed out diagrams and paper, and then was there for questions. He'd scheduled 3 hours, but most of us were done with the model after about 2 hours, and I am surprised by how nice my first fold looks. It's surely connected to the awesome paper Satoshi gave us. He said it was gampi paper. It was quite thin, but strong, and took creases extremely well.

Rabbit (Satoshi Kamiya)

Surely one of the highlights of the CDO Convention 2009 was participating in origami workshops lead by Satoshi Kamiya. He taught this rabbit, and it wasn't quite so easy to get a nice finished model - not due to the complexity of the folds, but rather because there were a lot of judgement folds you had to make. So this is a model you have to fold a couple of times to get a feeling for how to place the creases to get a rabbit-like feel in the finished model.

Stellated Icosahedron (Paolo Bascetta)

As to be expected at an origami convention in December, lots of people folded Paolo Bascetta's stellated dodecahedron, commonly known as the "Bascetta Star". I decided to give it a go, too, and here's the result. I used 30 squares of foil-paper-foil sandwich, which isn't the easiest to work with. That's why I only use it with very simple models, and the units are straightforward enough to fold.

Twirl (Krystyna Burczyk): 10 "Just Twist" Modules

Designer:

After learning how to fold the twirl using 8 butterfly modules, Krystyna also showed us a twirl with 10 modules. You had to make tighter twirls, which was a bit harder, but I like the result even more. The paper also had a slightly pearlescent effect, which does give the finished model a special touch.
